Willow and Moss Sustainable Shop coming soon...

Flower arrangements have bought so much joy to our customers this year, 'Pots and Petals' has teamed up with 'Phebe's Flower Truck' and rebranded as 'Willow and Moss', AND we are opening our first sustainable Florist shop in October!

Both Phebe and I are super-excited to be opening a shop together, and remain committed to using sustainably sourced flowers and non-sustainable materials.

There are many ways to create stunning, sustainable floral designs that are kind to the planet, and our shop will have plenty on display! Our autumn wreaths have been popular already, full of colour, texture and scent.

Phebe and I love educating at our workshops on not only the praticial and creative ways to be a eco-conscious flower arranger, but, how to source sustainable materials too.

Embracing Sustainable Floral Designs: What Does It Mean?

Our Sustainable floral designs focus on reducing environmental harm while maintaining aesthetic appeal. Our approach considers the entire lifecycle of flowers and materials used, from cultivation to disposal. Our Key principles include:

  • We use locally grown flowers: Reduces transportation emissions and supports local growers.

  • We choose seasonal blooms: Ensures flowers are naturally available, avoiding energy-intensive greenhouse production.

  • We avoid plastic floral foam: This non-biodegradable material is harmful to the environment.

  • We reuse and recycle materials: Containers, ribbons, and vases are just a few!

  • We compost plant waste: Instead of throwing away stems and leaves, composting returns nutrients to the soil.

By adopting these practices, Phebe and I feel we can still can create arrangements that are both beautiful and environmentally responsible.

How we Choose Flowers for Sustainable Floral Designs

Selecting the right flowers is the foundation of sustainable floral design. Here are just a few of our eco-friendly choices:

1. We Opt for Native and Seasonal Flowers

Native flowers are adapted to the local climate and soil, requiring less water and pesticides. Seasonal flowers are naturally abundant during certain times of the year, so they don’t need energy-intensive growing conditions.

  • Example: Spring bulbs like daffodils and tulips are one of our favourite choices.

2. We Support Organic and Pesticide-Free Growers

Flowers grown without harmful chemicals are better for pollinators and soil health. We look for certifications or ask growers about their practices.

3. We Avoid Flowers with a High Carbon Footprint

Imported flowers flown in from distant countries contribute significantly to carbon emissions, this is why Phebe and I source flowers grown closer to home.

  1. Our Minimalist Designs

Less is more. We love creating simple arrangements with fewer stems without compromising on style and elegance.
